Main Character Mood Board

OUR MAIN CHARACTER

We still haven't found the perfect name for our main character but we do know how we want to present her. She is a latin (Mexican-American) teenager, to show hispanic representation, that is dealing with drug problems do to her best friend passing away. I created this mood board to show properly how this character is in her personality and such. 

She is clearly addicted to many substances and parties hard. The mood of the movie is dark neutral colors to connect to when she is feeling depressed. She has really heavy and dark eye bags. For now this is all we have but the name and more about her are in the works for very soon.

GROUP REFLECTIONS

So today we met with groups so that we could reflect on each others progress and just how we're doing. I actually learned a lot with this group.

I told them about the fact that me and my partner got way ahead of ourselves and that we have to do a lot of research before we get into filming. I also explained the many problems that we had since we were in such a rush. 

They suggested a lot of things like researching more about the drama genre and movies that are similar to the idea I am doing. They also said that since it's an idea that has been done before, that I should make it more unique and out of the normal. To do that I need to make it weirder or more interesting, something that separates my movie from the others that could be just like it.

The people in my group also had some great ideas. My favorite one was Gabriella's that was about a girl that gets transported into her book. I had read a book about something similar a really long time ago so I recommended it to her in case it is able to help. I thought her idea was very creative and I am so exited to see what she does with this idea. Not only this but her blogs were perfect. I thought they were very well organized and also super pretty and pleasing to the eye. I'm probably going to end up copying her at some point just to make mine more interesting...

But overall I'm so happy I was able to meet with them because it actually helped and I also got to meet new people in my class.

Beautiful Boy??

 So...

Basically my partner and I got way too excited about this project and couldn't wait to start filming. But we realized that it was too soon and that we actually need to put in a lot more effort and thought into this assignment. So we will be researching multiple opening scenes and more tips in order to improve in our own.

So today I researched movies that have a similar theme or just same vibe. A movie that came first to my mind was Beautiful Boy (2018). In this film, a teenager deals with a drug addiction while his father and rest of his family have to watch him suffer with little ways to help him. 

The opening scene in this movie is the father talking to someone who we assume is some sort of rehab manager or therapist. He explains his sons addiction to meth and how he is becoming a completely different person. He is asking this person for help because he doesn't know what to do. From this scene you can already tell that movie will be a rollercoaster since he is explaining that his son is not the same person that the father raised because of the change in his character.

This movie is terribly sad and devastating, which is kind of what we are trying to make our audience feel. Talking about our audience, we still haven't quite figured out our target audience but we are getting there.

Filming pt.2

 Today was presidents day so we took advantage of this day off and woke up at 5AM in order to go to the beach and film the second part of the scene where the girl is waking up from a long night.

This part has so much details to it and it makes it so interesting to just see how it all adds up and just know the true meaning behind everything.

We have a shot where it shows the mom calling and then you are able to see the amount of missed calls that she has from her.

This is one of the pictures I took of the sunrise, which was so beautiful.

After that we went to eat at a breakfast place so that we could recharge our energy and keep filming!!

First day of filming (2/19/23), many difficulties...

So on Sunday February 19, we went to the cemetery in order to film the first part of our opening scene. While there it was a bit difficult to work there since we did not want to be disrespectful at all to the people laying there. And Mariana's camera, which we were using to film, had died.

By the time all of this had happened it was already dark out and we wanted to film when it was more day out. So we agreed on reshooting that part on the day that we are going to the beach to film the second part.

This day we were also able to come up with newer ideas to make the scene just make more sense and capture the viewer a lot more.

Story board time!!

02/17/23

Hi blogg! Today we worked on the story board so that we know exactly how we want to film everything. We had to get very creative in order to make sure everything went out smoothly. 

Throughout the process of filming it will probably change knowing us and that we are pretty indecisive it is bound to change. We also found our actress, Damaris, who is Marianas best friend. We thought she would be the perfect fit for this role since she is what we imagined in the first place. We will be going to a cemetery and the beach to film more scenes.

DAY NUMBER 1!

Today is the first official day that Mariana (my parter) and I have actually worked on our project. We started with researching more about our genre. Which is.... DRAMAA. 

We were really debating that or a coming of age type of film but we knew that if we want to make it a cinematic masterpiece, that it has to be very dramatic.

We watched a few examples of some opening scenes in Drama films. One of the films were "Lord of War" (2005)

We also figured out what we wanted to do, after so many different ideas. We're going to make the movie about a teenage girl dealing with drug addictions due to a family passing. We figured out how we wanted it to happen and made a schedule

With this I feel like it'll be a lot easier to have everything planned out. Tomorrow we are going to do the storyboard so that it'll make filming a lot easier since we will see it on paper and be on the same page with each other.

New Project!!

 In class on February 7, we got assigned a new project. This project is probably one of the biggest I've ever gotten. It's called the portfolio project. 

Our teacher explained that we have to create an opening scene. I decided to work with Mariana Sanin. We still haven't found a specific genre because we like to keep our minds open.

So far we have been brainstorming many different ideas such as an immigrant story, 2000s romcom, a parallel story, and someone going through something. These are very broad and general ideas just so that we can make sure we know what path we want to go down on. Both of us made a list and we will have to discuss it with each other.

What we do know that we want is to make it artistic and just make it look beautiful. To leave people in awe, which is something we learned about from the ted talk presented in class.

I am actually so exited to start this project and just see how I will get to the end results.

Music Marketing Project Reflection

     My music marketing project needed a lot steps in order for it to get done. First we had to set a schedule. Our schedule consisted of who was doing what and when we were going to do it. We each said when we were free to film the video and we agreed on a day. We also asked each other what we would be most interested in doing for the project, for example the research, the editing, or anything else.

     Once we decided when to film, we also chose where. We decided to go to Flanigan's since there's a bar and that was what we needed. When we got there we had some difficulties with being able to use the bar since none of us were of age to drink. Because of that we switched it up a little and instead of having a bartender, we had a waitress.

     When we finished the video that is when we started the powerpoint. We started the research. Emilio and Samuel made the case studies in order to have something to compare our band to. While me and Mariana worked on our slides. Through research I found many websites that reach our specific target audience and can promote our songs/brand. One of these websites was Countrymusichalloffame.org where I found a lot of information about more popular country artists and how they promote their events.

     Another piece of research I found interesting is the history of the bluegrass genre. I learned that bluegrass came many places like Ireland, England, and Scotland in the 1600s. I also learned that the father of bluegrass is from Kentucky which is one of the top states that listens to the most country music.

     What I got from this project is that I learned so much about a genre that I personally have never been interested in. I learned about its origin, its fanbase, and its artists. I also learned about how to promote events and content through different medias in order to reach the target audience for that genre.
